DLO 535 MCM

WesBell DLO (Diesel Locomotive) cable contains tinned copper strands and is dual insulated with EPR / CPE insulation. The double layer of insulation adds protection for severe outdoor conditions for mining and earthmoving equipment installations. DLO cable is also used in shipyards and as motor leads but is most commonly deployed in diesel-electric locomotives. It’s rated for 2,000 volts and 90C.

The 535 DLO cable diameter is 1.34 inches, which is in the middle range of DLO cable diameters. With its medium current capacity, this cable can handle some larger applications. The 535 DLO cable weighs 2,000 pounds per 1,000 feet.

What Is a Diesel Locomotive (DLO) Cable?

This flexible cable type always has an EPR and CPE double insulation construction for versatility and strength. The thin copper strands make it flexible, while the tinned coating allows easy adherence when applying lugs.

Initially designed for diesel-electric locomotives, this cable type has many modern applications. These cables are always rated at 2,000 volts, and they exist in a wide range of sizes for your usage.

How to Choose the Proper Cable

The 535 DLO cable can be an excellent choice for the right application. If you’re not sure what cable would be right for your power needs and operating environment, there are a few specifications you should understand about your machinery and its demands before buying. Look at the following factors:

  • Voltage: This designation describes how much force an electrical current needs to move — this requirement will vary depending on the type of machinery. Larger equipment typically needs a higher voltage rating.
  • Current: Ampacity refers to the amount of electrical current a device can handle. If the amperage capacity is too low for your equipment, your machine may not function properly, and you could risk the safety of the user.
  • Environment: The insulation and coatings on cables affect how well they react to their conditions. If you’re using your cables for harsh environments with frequent exposure to moisture, acids or rough handling, you need a strong coating.
